How do you come together and share a resource?
RiVerSpeAK is Spokane’s local forum for everything artistic. The resource we share is a virtual space (riverspeak.wordpress.com, which is in the process of being upgraded) where anyone in the Spokane area can post their music, art, writing, films, animations, fashion, and anything else artistic. The idea is to nourish and sustain Spokane-area participation in the arts by providing this online community forum for new and established local talent.
The forum has helped local talent share their work, collaborate, seek and offer feedback, connect to local arts opportunities, and build community. RiVerSpeAK especially strives to reach out to developing young talent in an effort to encourage their work and connect them to opportunities for growth in the community. RiVerSpeAK also collaborates with local artists and venues to organize local arts events, and hopes to someday put out local community publications.
How would your group use the award money?
RiverSpeak would use the award money to publish a “Young and Talented” print magazine for distribution in the community, featuring the work of Spokane’s greatest young artistic talents. Full-color print is expensive, as is marketing costs to reach out to the many high schools in the Spokane area. Not only would these up-and -coming young people have their work featured in the magazine, but we’d like to offer a scholarship of $1,000 to one talented artistic youth from our community (featured in the magazine). We would ask local businesses to sponsor the magazine project in order to raise funds for the scholarship.
