RHF Extreme
How do you come together and share a resource?
RHF Extreme is a Christ-centered mentorship program that uses fitness as a tool for cultivating mentoring relationships between high school students and adult mentors in south Seattle. We renovated an unused garage on Rainier Avenue and turned it into a place where people of all ages can receive excellent physical training while developing powerful life skills including discipline, character, honor, and perseverance.
The shared resource is the garage itself, along with the Olympic weightlifting equipment, gymnastics rings, tires, and other training equipment. We want to provide a safe, encouraging environment where youth can clarify their goals and achieve them, with adult mentors helping to guide them along the way. The students will pay for their membership, either with money ($20/month) or through community service (5hrs/month). The goal is to add value for students while also providing a service to the greater community, whether it’s yard work, cleaning, or helping at an event. Ultimately, we see youth and adults who are intentional about pursuing meaningful goals, and who are actively engaged with the community around them.
How would your group use the award money?
If awarded this grant, we would use the money to provide program resources for students. Specifically, we’d like to give rewards for students who set goals and achieve them – ie. achievement shirts for reaching certain benchmarks in lifting and conditioning workouts. We’d also like to provide a quarterly outdoor expedition for students and mentors (whitewater rafting, hiking, camping, etc.) as a functional way to use their strength. Finally, we’d use the money for additional weightlifting equipment as the program expands.
