New Beginnings Christian Fellowship (NBCF) Outreach Ministry
How do you come together and share a resource?
NBCF provides home cooked meals, words of encouragement, hope and love to the homeless.
From June 2007 to September 2009, NBCF was responsible for providing 9,200 home cooked meals to homeless men, women, and children.
• This included weekly home cooked hot dinners at the Annex in Renton from June 2007 to March 2009 for the Children’s shelter of the Union Gospel Mission, the homeless of Renton and Nickelsville (the destitute tent encampment). We also provided elaborate Christmas Eve dinners in 2007 and 2008. Approximately 4,000 meals were served at the Annex.
• In partnership with Bryn Mawr United Methodist Church, IT Department of King County DOT, Pacific Middle School Highline School District, and numerous families and friends, NBCF provided home cooked meals to Nickelsville from December 2008 to September 2009. Approximately 4,300 meals were served to these homeless men, women, and children as the moved from the University United Church of Christ, Bryn Mawr United Methodist Church, the West Marginal Way site, and Terminal 107 Park.
• We also provided 800 meals to residents of the Area of Renton Interface Shelter Endeavor in October 2009 and 100 meals to the residents of Hope Place in June 2009.
How would your group use the award money?
NBCF will partner with organizations that have kitchen and dining facilities and establish a regular homeless feeding program.
• Depending on the size of the award, we’ll provide from 250 to 2,500 home cooked nutritious hot meals to homeless men, women, and children.
• Equally important are the words of encouragement and hope we will provide as we answer God’s call to serve those who are in need.

It is wonderful to see people that care and devote time to those that are experiencing troubled times. Indeed it is such a blessing for everyone to be good to other people in time of need. This ministry is not just a helping the many men, women, and children that need support and love but it is also assisting to encourage others around the community to be helpful and loving to those in need. This ministry supports the statement that people can truly make a difference in other people’s lives. I had the pleasure of meeting several hundred homeless men, women and children during the time this video was taken. I can honestly say that our feeding Ministry not only provided wonderful food, but also demonstrated to them that they are not alone during their time of need. In this day and age we are becoming an increasingly selfish generation. To see that there are still Good Samaritans out there is warming to the heart. It lets me know that God still lives in us and all we have to do is acknowledge Him and His light will shine through. There are MANY in this nation who go without, not because the choose not to go out and work for it, but because we refuse to assist them when they are down. You never know when it is God or one of His Angels asking for your help, testing you to see what you would do. Will you pass or fail the test?

I taught a cooking classes at Pacific Middle School. As with all of my projects there is always a community service component. My students participated in this feeding ministry by preparing a wonderful meal. The students felt so energetic about cooking for the homeless. Several of the students came on a Sunday to serve the meal that they prepared. The homeless people that were served this meal could not believe that young people cared enough to take the time to cook for them. When all was said and done the homeless people gave my class an A+. When I reflect on all the people who joined in this feeding project, most of the food came from our own pantries, some people who participated sacrificed what little they had. Just imagine what we all can do with the support of the grant!

I was truly uplifted by being invited to participate in feeding the residence of Nickelsville with my family. My mother, sisters, brother-in-law, daughter, niece and friend warmed the bellies of several people on a very cold day. All of us love to cook so knowing that the leftovers would not got to waste was great, but knowing that it was cold enough outside to maintain the food without refrigeration made my heart go out even more to the residence. Everyone was so grateful and happy to receive a warm meal. While those of us who have homes are secure and warm, each of the residents of these communities are taking turns standing post as security and meeting regularly as community members to be certain that all of them are doing their part and that the grounds remain safe. From the outside we may see the blue tarps, but on the inside are people just like you and me, who have been hit with hard times, addiction or abuse, leaving them with no where to turn but toward each other or to those who take part in great ministries such as these. Wouldn’t it be great to receive a grant to assist in these efforts.

One of the best things about this program, besides the significant difference some kind words and a hot meal makes, is to see young people actively involved in feeding others. This will have a great impact on thier lives as they grow. It helps them to become concious and caring adults.

NBCF believes that God Is Always Ready To Start Over. This is exactly what this video is all about Gods Love for one another, regardless of your circumstances. The feeding ministry at NBCF cares about one thing and that is to help through love and understanding. Sometimes the only thing that you can do is to put a smile on someones face and a song in their heart that is truly what this ministry does. They are hard working individuals with nothing but love in their hearts for others, always ready to assist no matter what the cause is.
