Jubilee Reach Center
How do you come together and share a resource?
“There has truly been a paradigm shift in education”, Mike Riley (RIP), Superintendent BSD 1996-2007. Three years ago Bellevue School District identified 800 BSD families that did not have a computer in the home. Recognizing that the paradigm shift in education requires a computer to be in a student’s home for a student to be well educated; JRC, BSD, community volunteers and technology companies pooled ideas about how to help those families on the margins. JRC became the leader of the collobrative project and created the Parent Computer Class.
The Parent Computer Class is the result of many hearts that decided to work together to transform lives. Now, over 100 parents have completed the course and received Free computers.
How would your group use the award money?
The award money will be used to sustain and expand the capacity of the Parent Computer Class at the Jubilee REACH Center. The total annual operating budget for Jubilee REACH Center is $731,700 and the project budget for the Parent Computer program is $ 5900. With the addition of the award money we could nearly double the capacity of the Parent Computer Class and more rapidly get computer training and computers into the homes of all the students in the Bellevue School District.

It is amazing to see the positive impact that this initiative has for those families that take the training and get the free PC.

I have seen this program lift up the whole family. After 6 classes, a man who did not finish second grade graduated from a class, received his first graduation certificate, and proudly took a computer home to his family. What a moment – - – and it gets sweeter. A teen, at risk of failing in school, got the tools she needed for homework help, and won “Student of the Quarter” Honors. A wife found medical help for her children, and a father applied for work online. This program brings the power of computers to everyone and strengthens families. Please help us to continue bringing this important program to our community.

This vital program has tremendous impact in the lives of parents to the children in the Before/After School Programs. Kids are excelling instead of failing. Families step out of poverty and into job security. This program brings hope, healing & community to those it serves. Please help the Jubilee Reach Center continue this program so those who still need help may receive it and to strengthen the Lake Hills Community.
