How do you come together and share a resource?
We are a church, East Renton Community Church.
People came in on Sunday and people left to return to their homes. Surrounding us as we commuted were people. People in need. As a small church we did not have a large budget, nor did not have the expertise to start a unique program of our own. Two years ago, we reached out with the only resources we had: people and love. We started asking other organizations if they would like help. At first people were skeptical that a church wanted to help clean parks, build a school’s baseball field or paint house. Men and women, young and old we wanted to help them all. We wanted people through our actions, in a tangible way, to see that God loves them. Today, we open our church doors wide and go out to serve others and build a stronger community.
Two years later we have shared our resources with individuals and the following organizations:
ARISE Ministries
City of Renton, Code Violations
City of Renton, Human Services
City of Renton, Library
City of Renton, Park and Recreation
Hazen High School
Liberty High School
Life Choices
Maywood Middle School
Operation Takeout
Pediatric Interim Care Center
Regency Rehabilitation Center
Salvation Army
Tree House
U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary
Volunteer Chore Services
How would your group use the award money?
The awarded money would almost double the budget the church currently allots towards our Compassion Ministry. One hundred percent of the money would be spent for others and not administration. A portion of this money, with the help of another organization, could bring a free medical care clinic to those who are uninsured on the East Hill of Renton. This award would pay for a year of this service. There are houses to be painted, a roof or two needs to be repaired, and handicap ramps to be built on homes. The homeless men of ARISE need food and socks. The award money would fund these simple things which would let a person know someone cares.
