A poem by Jonah
Written By Katherine Hume
The West is settling in for the night
For the moon she is listening she is listening tonight
While the East gives birth to the golden sunshine
The resurrection of Venus is not far behind
A rainbow of light in our Northern sky
Showers us with snowflakes that flutter on by
Tears of joy in caverns deep remind us still
That we may sleep and sleep we will
And manifest dreams of love and of peace
For the South is to North as the East is to West
And now our Southern Cross can now resurrect
Reflections of Beauty by Aalamah Zaire(B. Delaney)
When I walk through the garden of Life
All the beautiful people I do see.
How can I pick which one is most precious to me?
Is it the one who is a reflection of strength, of a rich and fertile soil?
Who glows like the setting sun with a kiss of violet and indigo?
No, I love the fullness of this life.
Its face, its race, its existence.
Is it the one who is the mirror of the sacred sands resting in the full moonlight?
Its mystery eludes me, intrigues me, fills me with shear delight!
No, I love the fullness of this life.
Its face, its race, its existence.
It is the one who is the twinkle of precious stones that rise and greet the midnight sky?
Its beauty, captures, admires, and sooths the naked eye?
No, I love the fullness of this life.
Its face, its race, its existence.
Is it the invisible one who had forgotten its beauty? Who cannot see its reflection?
Whose deepest sorrow hates itself and shares that hate with everyone else?
No, I love the agony of this life.
Its face, its race, its existence.
When I walk through the garden of Life
All the beautiful people I do see.
How can I pick which one is most precious to me?
Unconditional love nurtures the garden and all that is within
Reflections of beauty, transform life, in and out and in again.

How do you come together and share a resource?
We are a group of emerging artists with disabilites. We share our talents, our songs, our bodies in dance, our hopes and our skills in organization, research, and performance arts. We have created a film together and now we are working to share our passion for poetry and performance art. We share our artist talents at local shelters for homeless families and we always hope to inspire other emerging artists with disabilities to continue with the passion to share and develop their artistic abilities.
How would your group use the award money?
We would 1/3 of the award money to help with self-publishing costs for a book called Jonah’s Leaf of Faith. We would use 1/3 of the award money to help with artist development training in dance and song. We would use 1/3 of the award money to support another emerging artist who resides at Broadview Shelter or attends the Professional Women’s Group Community Action Project for homeless women in 2010.
