The SMCU Cooperators spent the day helping local non-profits carry out their important work. This was a great day and a great example of Principle 7.
Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union wanted to tell the story of groups coming together in the spirit of cooperation to share their resources and make a difference in the community.
SMCU brought folks together at our downtown branch to show how big change could come from a small investment. The day began with a simple question, “If we gave you $10, what could you do for someone else?”
SMCU members told us that they didn’t like the look of our debit card. Cooperative Principle2 says “Members call the shots,” so we asked them to come up with a new design. Hundreds were submitted and the members chose the winner.
SMCU is a cooperative governed by the Seven Principles co-ops have followed for more than a hundred years. It makes a difference in who we are.
